My students can't log in with their Google Accounts

Google has made major changes to their security protocols. ReadWorks has no control over these changes. Only school and district IT managers can resolve this issue. They should know the following from Google:

Below is a summary of the new enhanced Third Party App Access Controls that are rolling out to Workspace for Education customers:

  • Confirming currently accessed Third Party Apps Apps: Edu Admins will be required to review and confirm access settings for all third-party apps used in their district by October 23, 2023.  After Oct 23, 2023, users designated as under 18 will no longer be able to use their Google Workspace for Education account to sign into or share data with any app that is not confirmed by Edu AdminIf your app is already being used in a district, it will be available for Admins to review and approve to help avoid any disruption.
  • Restricted access to unconfigured apps for users designated under 18: Users designated under 18 in age-based access settings will be required to request access to apps that aren’t already configured with a trusted, limited, or blocked setting in the Admin Console. Admins will be able to review requests and configure settings to grant access. Learn more
  • Optional access to unconfigured apps requesting only basic profile info: Admins have the option to allow users designated under 18 to skip requesting access for all unconfigured apps that only ask for basic profile info for authentication purposes. These apps would be allowed for users designated under 18  without further action from Admins. Learn more
  • Different access for different users: Admins will be able to configure third-party app access differently by organizational units. Learn more
During June, Google has been notifying all Edu Admins directly to ensure they review and confirm access settings for third-party apps that are currently accessible to their users (configured apps) by Oct 23, 2023.If you have any questions, we’ve created these FAQs that cover more information and how our partners can support school districts in this process.
